Guest Room Gallery

Co-owned by singer-actress Doris Day, this boutique hotel a block from downtown Carmel’s shops retains much of its 1920s glamour, and is 5 miles from Monterey and Pebble Beach golf courses. Cozy rooms and suites with old-world charm and wood furnishings offer free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs, plus designer toiletries and fresh flowers. Some have verandas, private entrances, fireplaces, Jacuzzis and/or half-moon transom windows.

The charming town of Carmel-by-the-Sea is quietly abuzz with travelers who’ve made their way down from the Bay Area or up from Los Angeles, art collectors or people interested in a simple respite from city life, and locals who’ve made this picturesque place—a village, really—their home. One of the loveliest places to stay there is the Cypress Inn, built in 1929 and first used as an art gallery and atelier. In the mid-1980s, local business owner Dennis LeVett bought the property with the legendary Doris Day, and the property is now a destination hotel, a local hangout, and one of most pet-friendly hotels in the country.” – Forbes Magazine
