Cypress Inn will once again open its doors for the Carmel Heritage Society’s annual Inns of Distinction Tour on December 7, giving visitors a chance to step inside one of Carmel’s most iconic and pet-friendly hotels. The tour returned last year after a four-year break and was, according to tour chair Cathy Collum, “a big success.”
Collum, a longtime board member, says guests love the chance to peek into rooms without the pressure of booking. The timing makes it even better. Each inn dresses up for the holidays, turning the tour into a seasonal showcase.
This year’s lineup features Cypress Inn, beloved for the warm and pet-welcoming spirit inspired by former owner Doris Day. Participants will also be able to visit Carmel Beach Hotel, which completed a major renovation in 2024, and the historic Lincoln Green Inn, made up of century-old cottages tucked into a garden setting. The tour typically highlights a half-dozen properties and includes small bites and wine tastings at every stop.
Local favorites will serve appetizers throughout the afternoon, including Village Corner, Il Fornaio, Terry’s, and Flaherty’s Seafood. Wines will be poured by Dawn’s Dream, Galante Vineyards, and Scheid Vineyards. Every adult guest receives a keepsake wine glass engraved with the Carmel Heritage Society logo and an image of the First Murphy House, the group’s 1902 headquarters. Collum says the glasses have become collectibles among repeat attendees.
The Inns of Distinction Tour runs from 2 to 5 p.m. on December 7. Advance tickets are 50 dollars, with same-day tickets at 60 dollars. More information is available at 831-624-4447 or www.carmelheritage.org.
